A VINCE GIORDANO SESSION

October 13, 2009 · 1 Comment

Since I have spent most of my life in suburbia, I am allowed to satirize it — and there is much to satirize.  And the days of intermittent jazz gigs and concerts on Long Island seem to have receded into the past.  But this is not a mournful post: rather, I have cheering news.

Our man in jazz, Vince Giordano, is bringing a hot septet to Manhasset, New York, under the aegis of the Sidney Bechet Society.  The concert will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at the Shelter Rock Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 48 Shelter Rock Road,Manhasset, New York (516-627-6560).  The suggested donation is $15.

And the band?  VINCE GIORDANO’S SEVEN: Randy Reinhart, trumpet; Jim Fryer trombone; Mark Lopeman, reeds; Ehud Asherie, piano; Ken Salvo, guitar; Vince Giordano, string bass, bass sax, tuba; Arnie Kinsella, drums.

Thanks to Eric Offner and to Phil Stern for making this possible!

So for those of you who can’t get to Chautauqua and don’t get to Sofia’s often enough, here’s another chance to hear hot jazz, just around the corner . . .
