I didn’t think I’d be posting this after a massive storm — whose sweet name “Sandy” gave no hint of its powers — and with rain and snow on the way. But if ever there was a need for optimistic sweet swing, it’s now.
Rebecca Kilgore lights the way — here, at an evening session at Jazz at Chautauqua 2012. With guitar in hands, she shows us how to be happy and supplies incontrovertible evidence why the quest for happiness is worth it . . . with help from Dan Barrett, trombone and arrangements; Rossano Sportiello, piano; Jon Burr, string bass; Ricky Malichi, drums.
“Talk of heaven on earth — we’ve got more than our share.”
A lightly Brazilian version of EAST OF THE SUN:
She makes us believe — IT’S A WONDERFUL WORLD:
Even though the title is ambivalent, Rebecca and the band aren’t — SOMETIMES I’M HAPPY (thanks to Lester Young, 1943):
Thank you, Doctors Kilgore, Sportiello, Barrett, Burr, and Malichi. I feel much better.
May your happiness increase.
Approved!
Here we have several of the great swing performers of our time playing and singing together. Truely an all star combo. I was privileged to attend Chautauqua in September and it is a real joy to be able to see and listen to Beckey and the group again in this medium,
