When he lived in Europe, Ben Webster had a tape recording of all his favorite pianists — mostly Art Tatum but also Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, and the other stride masters — which he played every morning to get himself in spiritual shape to face the world gleefully. 

Stride piano can do that for you. 

Here’s a young fellow from France — Jean-Baptiste Franc — who knows what he’s doing on those keys.  His YouTube channel is called “countbasiedonlambert,” which should tell you something about his musical allegiances.  And you don’t have to take my word for it: watch Jean-Baptiste romp through RUSSIAN LULLABY: athletic and inventive, making every beat of those three minutes count:

    I wonder what forces of nature and nationality have converged to contribute to the large number of young, French, jazz enthusiasts who have emerged on the Stride stage.
