When you’re sliding, the whole world slides with you. Or we hope so.
These are trombonists I don’t mind encouraging, and a nifty medium-uptempo blues is a cure for many ills.
This one — the line Artie Shaw called SUMMIT RIDGE DRIVE after his home address of the time, recorded by the Gramercy 5 — is brought to swinging life by Russ Phillips (left), Dan Barrett (right), trombone; Rossano Sportiello, piano; Nicki Parrott, string bass; John Cocuzzi, drums. One of the hundreds of sweet highlights of the 2015 Atlanta Jazz Party.
And what a rhythm section. Everyone‘s sliding, and not a cliche in sight.
May your happiness increase!
Jay and Kai revisited.Yes,I know-no comparison. The axe’s are the same, but the musical philosophy differs. All are good. This the first time I’ve heard Mr. Phillips and he kind of stole the cake from Dan.I’m sure he caught up on ensuing tunes.great post,Michael.
My opinion,,Those two trombones started this swinging tune with a bang, Rozzano Sportiello is without a doubt, one of the best of the best, Nicki Parrot is an amazing musician that never misses a beat. A great swinging tune played to perfection! Thank you NM,
Hi Michael, I’m flattered that you thought I was Ed Metz, but it was me, John Cocuzzi on drums. Thanks
