HOT IN THE HEARTLAND: THE RHYTHM ACES (ROY RUBINSTEIN, KIM CUSACK, ANDY SCHUMM, JIM BARRETT, JOHN WIDDICOMBE, March 26, 2018): PART TWO

A hot time was had by all last Monday night at the Breakwater in Monona, Wisconsin, when the Rhythm Aces swung out: Roy Rubinstein, trombone; Kim Cusack, clarinet, alto saxophone, vocal; Andy Schumm, cornet, clarinet; Jim Barrett, banjo; John Widdicombe, string bass.  Here is the first part of their heated rhapsody.

And some more of that good noise.

MY MONDAY DATE (as scored for two clarinets and rhythm section, in honor of Jimmie Noone’s Apex Club Orchestra):

TROG’S BLUES (by and about clarinetist / cartoonist Wally Fawkes):

BILL BAILEY (sung by Kim with the essential-to-the-narrative verse):

More to come, thank goodness.

May your happiness increase!

Thank you for all the music you make available to all your readers! Sorry not to have the time to listen till all but grateful for your repeated attempts to draw my attention to, as you put it, the good music. This time to Trog´s blues and in the fine setting above. I almost cry when I hear it. Have you heard “Friendless blues” on a recording with Humprey Lyttleton where Trogs plays base clarinet? Beautiful, beautiful carribean rhytms and three clarinets. Let me know if you would like me to try to find it and send you a link. Special thanks for getting the spotlight on Andy Schumm, a very wellknown name whose playing unbelievably enough has escaped me earlier, yes so little time I have had. Now there will be a whole different ballgame and I will try to find as much as possible information from everywhere available in preparation of the Witley Bay Jazz Party in early November, first time for me. This seemingly very sympatical multi-instrumentalist will play there. Now when I start to listen more closely and collect info I remember that Bent Persson from Sweden recommended me to listen to Mr. Schumm and that should have been good enough for me. Time was too short. Your link to his home page provides a little and YouTube quite a lot of videos. So now I thank you for the reminder of things remaining to enjoy before November in Newcastle. Like finding Bix recordings easy to get in Sweden and listen to them. (At Ginza postal order company as CD:s). Thank you again for retrieving the Bix cornet-styled music being played recorded and live.
Very best wishes from still snowy and cold middle Sweden. Helena Davidsson
PS I am in a long process of getting a new e-mail software supplier and so I will have to change my old addresse. The present one will fall out completely but when it will be is what I yet don´t know.
